The rental fee is good for all three Vudu formats: SD, HD and HDX (480p, 720 or 1080p); streamed at a minimum bitrate of 1Mbps, 2.25Mbps, or 4.5Mbps, respectively. While the rental charge is certainly a steal, the purchase price of U-571 is like most digital purchases at $13.99 (HD/HDX) or $9.99 (SD). The high-def formats also include 5.1 Surround Sound. Walmart launches Disc-to-Digital In-Home service for UltraViolet Digital Copies

This week at CES Walmart brought news of the launch of their Disc-to-Digital In-Home service, along with the announcement of a new Facebook app that will let users view movie content and influence what movies Walmart sells in-store and online. Walmart’s Disc-to-Digital service was, of course, launched about a year ago. But the service (which is powered by VUDU) has been extended to let users acquire UltraViolet digital copies of their movies and TV shows at home rather than in-store only. Standard DVDs and Blu-ray cost $2 per conversion, while upgrades to HD quality digital titles cost $5 per conversion. Walmart is also offering 10 free movies to new customers who sign up. Read More

Here’s a bit of holiday cheer for Android tablet owners. VUDU is now supported on select tablets including the Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T.
