December 6, 2012 |

Netflix has a lot of friends; a lot of business partners; a lot of connections. But when it comes time to penning a Thank You card, the first one goes to Sony. The Netflix blog has written a love letter of sorts to the PlayStation 3, recognizing the console as the leader in Netflix streaming. In the US and globally, the PS3 is the largest TV-connected platform in terms of Netflix viewing. At times in 2012, the PS3 even surpassed the PC. Of course, Sony is returning the love, with a mutually sweet letter from SCEA’s Business Development Senior VP, Phil Rosenberg, who notes the PS3 was the “first computer entertainment system to offer Netflix in full 1080p video resolution with 5.1-channel Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, and to offer post play, second screen controls, on device sign-up, and alternate audio options including subtitles.”  The PS3 is also currently the only platform to experience a new voice user interface called “Max” that’s currently being tested.

In stores today: ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’

May 22, 2012 |

With all due apologies to Mario Tennis Open, we’ve deemed this week’s big game release to be Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier ($59.99, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). Ubisoft’s long-awaited follow-up to 2006’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter lets you get your hands on more than 50 weapons as you track down high-value terror targets in eight spots around the globe. Of course multiplayer is also a big part of the experience, and Future Solider offers four game modes, ten maps and multiple classes to stretch your dollars out for months to come. Early reviews for the game are above average. If you’re new to the series, be warned: The pace of the gameplay is much slower and more deliberate than anything from the Call of Duty or Battlefield franchises. ‘God of War: Ascension’ to include multiplayer

April 30, 2012 |

We’re getting some juicy new nuggets about the recently announced God of War: Ascension, with the main one being the inclusion of multiplayer for the first time ever in a God of War game. Game director Todd Papy talked in length (see video here) this morning about the changes he and his Sony Santa Monica Studios team are making to the PlayStation franchise, including adapting the game engine for eight-player matches on five to seven maps.
