MLB Productions is transferring almost 30 classic World Series films to high-definition. And, for the first time, the films will be aired in HD on the MLB Network. The broadcasts will begin on the network’s opening day, Jan. 1, at 7 p.m. ET, with the 1956 World Series featuring Yankees pitcher Don Larsen pitching a perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
This will be the first time the game has been aired since its original broadcast in ’56 and will be followed by in-studio commentaries by Don Larsen and Yogi Berra. The New Years day debut will reach approximately 50 million homes. MLB Network CEO Tony Petitti says they plan on transferring the entire history of Major League Baseball games to hi-def, a process that will take 6-7 years.
MLB.com says the network has wired 300 miles of HD cabling at MLB Network’s facility, and has mounted 62 HD displays in their Studio 3. The hi-def displays are just some of the improvements MLB has made in their $50 million investment.
The MLB Network will broadcast 26 live Major League games this upcoming 2009 regular season, with the anticipation of airing more. As well as broadcasting World Series classics and MLB season games, the network will also air World Baseball Classic games in March.
Its Jan 3rd and i just found out I have MLB network, when will you repeat the 1956 world series? I was in school 52 1/2 years ago and missed the game I never dreamed I might see it again.

not sure about that. color was introduced by NBC in the 50’s, but I’m not sure who televised the game. anyone else know?
