‘James Bond’ titles vanish from Netflix streaming [UPDATE]

What? You say all the James Bond films have disappeared from Netflix streaming before you could watch them all? It shouldn’t come as a surprise. Titles come and go from the Netflix digital library as licensing contracts with studios and distributors expire. There’s not much you can do except contact Netflix and beg them to bring the titles back.

Bond films first appeared on Netflix in April, 2011 with about 14 titles, and since then other films from the franchise were added for our pleasure. Now Bond is gone. And, if we don’t own the discs we’ll be forced to wait until another Bond marathon hits the networks, and endure commercial after commercial break while the networks pay their bills. (Heck, we did that for years so what’s the difference?)

Of course, you can still rent any James Bond DVD or Blu-ray Disc from Netflix’s DVD-by-Mail service, if you still have it. Which brings up an interesting question. Is Netflix’s streaming service like the local DVD rental store where you can get any movie you want, any time? Or is it more like television, where you only get to watch whatever is being broadcast (except commercial-free)?

Come on Netflix, throw us a bone. At least offer us the so-called impostor Bond film Never Say Never Again to keep us 007 addicts happy until the next time you license the Bond collection. And please, keep the original Star Trek TV series up there a bit longer. I’m only on Season Two: Episode 14. Got a while to go.

Thanks Harvey for getting us fired up!

[UPDATE] Netflix recently added back several James Bond titles to their streaming library. Look for these films or simply do a search for “james bond movies” to see currently listings.

  1. This just sucks. Not being able to stream Bond movies. Netflix should at least update their search engine to display a message explaining the reason why.
