AT&T U-verse nears 550k customers

AT&T reached 549,000 customers who use the IPTV based U-verse service. For the quarter ending June 30, AT&T posted a gain of 170,000 customers using the service. The company currently serves 11 million residents in 53 markets, offering all-digital standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) channels to its customers.

However, according to an article by Multichannel News the company continued to post significant losses in its access-line business and slow growth in broadband. The company’s consolidated revenues were at $30.9 billion at the end of the quarter. It’s operating income was up 33% from last year ($6.6 billion from $4.9 billion.) Net income was $3.8 billion, up from $2.9 billion last year.

AT&T provides an IPTV based TV/Internet/Phone package via its U-verse service. U-verse offers customers who subscribe to the U-400 package at least 46 HD channels. The company recently added several channels to its HD lineup that include USA Networks HD, Sci Fi Channel HD, Bravo HD, and CNBC HD.
