If you’re a NOOK HD owner your device just got a little more fun, as Barnes & Noble announced the NOOK HD and NOOK HD+ tablets now have access to Android apps on Google Play. The app choices for NOOK HD devices on Google Play number over 700,000, including popular applications like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, as well as thousands of games and other apps NOOK HDs were previously not privy to. NOOK owners get free paid app on Fridays

Last Friday NOOK customers were offered the OfficeSuite Professional 7 app from MobiSystems for free. The $14.99 app launched the expansion of Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Free Fridays, where you can download a featured paid NOOK Book (and now app) every Friday. Last Friday’s free book was David Rhodes’ triumphant Driftless. Supporting NOOK models include NOOK HD, NOOK HD+, NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color. So much for reading on your Nook, Barnes & Noble has announced content deals with major studios including Lionsgate, MGM, and Paramount Pictures that will make it hard to get to the latest NY Times Best Seller. We’re talking titles like The Hunger Games, Flight, Skyfall, Paranormal Activity 4, and films from the Twilight franchise. Additional video content will come from Relativity Media, National Geographic, Little Pim, and Film Buff. And, if you’ve got an UltraViolet account yet you’ll be able to watch your UV-enabled titles on your Nook HD by linking to the NOOK Cloud. B&N reveals NOOK HD tablets and NOOK Video service

NOOK HD Blk AngleBookseller Barnes & Noble has revealed NOOK HD and NOOK HD+, two new tablets aimed at competing with Apple’s iPad, Amazon’s Kindle, and other glossy tablets with high resolution video playback. B&N’s new tablets will be available in 7-inch and 9-inch display models, boasting 1440×900 or 1920×1280 resolution, respectively. In regards to HD classification, the NOOK HD supports up to 720p resolution (at 243ppi), while the NOOK HD+ supports up to 1080p (at 256ppi). The tablets house dual-core processors at either 1.5GHz (NOOK HD) or 1.5GHz (NOOK HD+), and support all the available NOOK apps in the NOOK store. Read More
