Paramount has announced a release date for Martin Scorsese’s film HUGO, nominated for 11 Academy Awards this year including Best Picture and Best Director. The film will release on February 28, 2012 to Blu-ray 3D, plain ol' Blu-ray, and single-disc DVD -- all of which contain UltraViolet copies.

Paramount launches online UltraViolet streaming & download service

Paramount has launched its online UltraViolet service which lets you purchase or rent films and store a copy in the cloud. The site is the first of its kind, with purchase prices ranging from $12.99 (SD) to $22.99 for HD quality. Rentals will cost you $3.99 (SD) or $4.99 (HD). Right now the site isn't exactly spilling over with titles, but there's no shortage of quality with films like The Godfather trilogy, Mission Impossible 1-3, and new comedies such as No Strings Attached and Rango.

New UltraViolet titles announced for 2012

At CES, the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) announced plans to release "hundreds" of titles to the UltraViolet format in 2012. The collective studios, including Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. and now Paramount, plan to include UltraViolet copies on upcoming Blu-ray Disc & DVD releases as well as electronic sell through.

‘Tower Heist’ announced for Blu-ray, UltraViolet & Digital Download

Universal's 2011 comedy Tower Heist has been announced for release on Blu-ray Disc with UltraViolet copy. And, not only will the Blu-ray Combo Pack include a cloud-based UltraViolet copy, a digital copy and standard-def DVD will also be part of the set. Enough formats for ya? If you're saying goodbye to physical discs you'll be happy to know the movie will also be released for Digital Download.

‘The Thing’ on Blu-ray to include UltraViolet copy

Universal's 2011 remake of the 1982 cult classic The Thing has been announced for release on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on January 31, 2012. The disc editions will contain deleted and extended scenes, featurettes "The Thing Evolves" and "Fire & Ice," and commentaries from the producer and director.

‘Harry Potter’ will be true test of UltraViolet digital copy

Warner Bros.' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 with UltraViolet digital copy will be a true test of the format when the Blu-ray Disc releases on Nov. 11, 2011. UltraViolet is a cloud-based digital library that allows you stream or download movies you have license to. You'll be able to tell which movies or TV shows are eligible by the UltraViolet logo on the product, online and in stores.
