Netflix has officially announced cancellation of future seasons of Jessica Jones & The Punisher. This doesn’t really come as a surprise though as Netflix canceled Marvel’s Daredevil back in November after three seasons, and has also axed Iron Fist and Luke Cage after two seasons.
Jessica Jones will run for a total of three seasons, even though Season 3 has yet to premiere on Netflix. The company has not given an exact launch date, although according to The Hollywood Reporter Season 3 production has been completed.
Marvel’s The Punisher ran for two seasons, having released all thirteen episodes of Season 2 just a month ago.
The Defenders series, which brings all four of those superhero characters into one storyline, was canceled after only one season much to the dismay of Marvel fans.
The cancellation of any future seasons of the Marvel/Netflix partnership comes as Disney prepares to separate themselves from Netflix with a streaming service of their own called Disney+. The future service has already announced two Star Wars live-action shows and a Marvel Cinematic Universe series.
The Marvel/Netflix collaborations were among the first series to offer 4k Ultra HD resolution and High Dynamic Range color. Today, we count over 350 titles available in 4k on Netflix.
