NBC Streaming App Channel Added to Roku
The Roku platform just got one high-profile channel added; the nationwide NBC network app. The channel is free to download, and those who authenticate with a TV service provider will supposedly get more content than those who don’t. Although limited in programming upon launch, the app channel lets Roku users watch ad-supported popular series such as The Voice,” and “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” the day after airing. Entire seasons of shows are also available to binge-watch such as Season Two of the “Blacklist.” Read more
Toshiba’s upgraded Chromebook 2 headed your way
Toshiba has upgraded their Chromebook 2 that can be purchased with either a 5th-generation Intel Core i3 processor ($429.99) or Celeron processor ($329.99). The next-generation Toshiba Chromebook 2, shipping in October, also features a new LED backlit keyboard for typing in the dark. Now how can you not like that? Read more
PlayStation 4 1TB model to release in US
Rumors had been floating around for a while about the release of a Sony PlayStation 4 with 1TB hard drive in the US, especially since it had already launched in the UK last summer. Sony finally confirmed the 1TB console, that’ll be available in a Call of Duty: Black Ops III Limited Edition Bundle on November 6th, 2015, and is currently available to pre-order for $449 US. Apple App Store cursed by XcodeGhost
Many Chinese-made apps in the Apple store were discovered to contain malicious code that was inserted, apparently, by the counterfeit Xcode software “XcodeGhost.” Apple has since been on the lookout for any apps that could have been created by bootleg versions of Xcode that bypass security protocols, but anyone who has apps such as the WeChat messaging app are encouraged to download the latest update. Apple also released a list of the top 25 popular apps affected by XcodeGhost, although at least 40 different apps were affected. Read more
STARZ PLAY now on Samsung Smart TVs
Ths STARZ PLAY app is now available on select 2014/2015 Samsung Smart TVs, giving subscribers on-demand access to internet-delivered Starz original programming such as “Survivor’s Remorse” and “Power,” as well as blockbuster movies like “McFarland USA” and Disney’s “Into the Woods.” Read more
EPIX will add Download feature to Mobile Devices
EPIX subscribers who own mobile devices will soon be able to take their movies on-the-go with an updated app that allows downloads. While at home, or anywhere there’s broadband, users can download enough titles from the premium network to watch wherever there’s no high-speed internet — such as airplanes, trains, and automobiles. The new feature will roll out in October, 2015. Read more
