Toshiba will produce a new 20-megapixel CMOS sensor starting next summer with pixel size at just 1.2 micrometers. The CMOS (model no. TCM5115CL), is said to be the highest resolution sensor in the 1/2.3-inch optical format. The sensor uses backside illumination technology (BSI) to improve image sensitivity for use in digital still and video cameras, which will be able to record 20MP at 30fps and in RAW10 format. At higher frame rates the sensor will capture at 60fps (1080p) and 100fps (720p). Toshiba will demonstrate the TCM5115CL starting in Jan. 2013.
