Nintendo dropping price of 3DS

Good news for those of you who thought the Nintendo 3DS was priced too high. Nintendo has announced a price drop for the portable gaming system. Starting August 12, the MSRP in the United States will be $169.99 – almost $100 less than the original launch price of $249. Upcoming games for the 3DS this fall include Star Fox 64 3D, Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart 7.

What if you’re one of the 830,000 customers who purchased a 3DS at a previously higher price? Nintendo is thanking you by offering 20 free downloadable games from the Nintendo eShop. To qualify you must have purchased a 3DS and have connected to the eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. Those customers will automatically be signed up for the Ambassador program and given 10 games starting Sept. 1 and 10 more games by the end of 2011.

Want more free games? Pre-order a Nintendo 3DS in Cosmo Black or Aqua Blue from Amazon for $169.99 and get a select 3DS game for free!
