DirecTV’s Home Premiere VOD service launched last Thursday but only to a limited audience. According to a TV Predictions article the service (offering $30 viewings of Adam Sandler’s “Just Go For It”) was only available to approximately six percent of the company’s subscribers. The video-on-demand service is only available to only those with broadband-connected HD DVRs, accounting for approximately 1.1 million customers. The report suggests DirecTV may keep the premiere audience limited (hence, keeping Home Premiere purchases low) to justify lowering the cost of a VOD film that is made available at least 30 days before DVD and about 60 days after theater release.
