Dish Network will pay $1 billion for satellite/terrestrial company DBSD North America, that according to Multichannel. DBSD was formed when the hybrid company ICO North America was renamed just before entering bankruptcy in May ’09. ICO North America was a subsidiary of ICO Global Communications based in Reston, Virginia. The acquisition still has to be approved by the FCC. But the bigger question is whether or not the acquisition will help Dish offer more HD channels.
