VIZIO to ship 3D TVs with RealD technology

You’ve probably heard of RealD, the company that provides 3D equipment for theater use. Soon RealD’s 3D image technology will be built into VIZIO 3D HDTVs in 42”, 47” and 55” sizes, as VIZIO announced it’s licensing of the technology and new 3D TV models. Based on the company’s side-by-side 3D display solution, the RealD Format uses infra-red to sync 3D eyewear with compatible 3D TVs.

VIZIO has licensed both RealD’s stereoscopic format and 3D lens, as well as the synchronization technology. RealD combines left eye and right eye images into a single channel to 3D-enabled displays using existing HD set-top boxes and DVRs.

The new VIZIO 3D TVs will be available at,,, and later this month.
