Sears licenses RoxioNow for digital delivery

Sears Holdings has licensed RoxioNow from Sonic Solutions for digital delivery of content to HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players, mobile devices and other web-connected electronics. The multi-year agreement includes both Sears and Kmart stores who will integrate the digital services (to be called Alphaline Entertainment) into capable products later this year.

The digital content, which includes movies and TV shows, will be available to rent or purchase through the service. Sonic says some movies will be offered digitally on the same day as DVD releases, although details were not given as to which Hollywood studios have conceded this.

“Teaming up with Sonic is a great opportunity for Sears and Kmart to quickly establish a position in digital video entertainment, and offer another great service to our customers,” said Karen Austin, President of Home Electronics for Sears Holdings.

Sonic Solutions has recently made agreements with electronics retailer Best Buy and movie rental giant Blockbuster.
