Best Buy to take in-store video game trade-ins

Late this summer, gamers will be able to bring their previously owned games into Best Buy stores and trade them immediately for gift cards. Currently, Best Buy only takes in-store trade-ins on iPods, Apple and PC laptops, and mobile phones. They do, however, already take video game trade-ins by mail.

What do you get for your trade-in? You might be better off hocking your games on Ebay, but if you want to avoid all the hassle (returns, Ebay fees, taking photos, etc.) and get instant credit towards new stuff at Best Buy, trade-ins may be the way to go.

We looked at a few estimates on popular games to see what you get. For example Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on either PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii will get you a $20 credit. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3) will get you $18. And, recently released Alan Wake (Xbox 360) will get you $32.

Want to find out the trade-in value of your old gamest? Visit the Best Buy trade-in website.

Best Buy is also launching magazine @Gamer this month. The magazine will be available in all Best Buy locations throughout the U.S. and cover gaming software and hardware. Subscribers to the magazine will get exclusive offers — almost $150 worth in the first issue – and at least $20 worth of offers per issue. 10 issues of @Gamer will cost $19.99 per year (in-store price $5.99).
