‘Assassin’s Creed III’ gets released in three editions

Assassins-Creed-III-Xbox-360You may have already picked up Assassin’s Creed III at a midnight release party last night, unless you were in an area where parties were cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy. If you missed it, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed III hits shelves today (and download servers) in several different editions. The third major release in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed III is, of course, available for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and the new Nintendo WiiU. Choosing the edition may be the hardest decision. For PS3 and Xbox 360 the game is available in a Standard Edition ($59), Limited Edition ($119), and Encyclopedia Edition ($99). For PC Download (Windows Vista/7/XP), Ubisoft will soon offer a Deluxe Edition ($64.99) on November 20, 2012. Assassin’s Creed III is available at GameStop, Amazon, and most big retailers. Read More

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning first DLC announced

Electronic Arts has announced the first DLC for 38 Studios’ Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The downloadable content is titled The Legend of Dead Kel and will hit servers on March 20, 2012. The Legend of Dead Kel takes players to a new continent called Gallows End, where they’ll find new enemies, 18 new weapons, a new dungeon type called Dverga Fastings, and three new Twists of Fate. ‘Star Wars: Battlefront III’ coming this year?

Multiple online pubs are reporting on a rumor that Star Wars: Battlefront III will release this year. PlayStationLifeStyle.net cites several job postings and tweets from insiders which point to a 2012 release of a “3rd person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise.” Talk about digging through clues, the sources also found a LinkedIn post from a developer who claims to have been working for three years on a “AAA third person shooter using Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware,” and another post that refers to an “Unannounced third person sword fighting game.” If it’s not Star Wars what could it be? It’s been almost seven years since the release of Star Wars: Battlefront II for PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox, and Windows. Using Kinect to control Skyrim

Check out this video of YouTube user KinectFAAST who uses Kinect technology to control gestures in Skyrim on the PC. The program, called FAAST, is middleware that runs on the OpenNI framework. The OpenNI framework doesn’t support voice so the guy uses VAC (Voice Activated Commands) software to convert spoken words to keystrokes via a RazorFish bluetooth headset. Read More

Star Wars: The Old Republic beta draws 2 million ahead of Dec. 20 release

Electronic Arts has committed the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand digital expansion pack to release on December 6 for PlayStation 3, and December 13 for Xbox and PC users.
