DISH Network reported through Reuters that it added only 85,000 network subscribers of the expected 167,000 subscribers last quarter. The company blames a poor housing market and economy, but also blamed competitors aggressively marketing high definition (HD) channels.
DISH currently has less HD channels than satellite competitor DIRECTV, with approximately 70 HD channels to their approximate 90 channels.
In addition, a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said, “Satellite launch delays at DISH Network have slowed its growth of local HD markets, which in turn has delayed its own aggressive retention marketing efforts.”
