So far, HBO has only given us a few tidbits about the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones: a teaser trailer, a short clip found in an promo video, and now some extended footage of the Stark kids (including Jon Snow) in a new teaser that reveals the release date.
The premiere of the short, six-episode Season Eight will be Sunday, April 14, 2019. Now, you might wonder how HBO will wrap up the series in just six episodes. It’s expected the episodes will be much longer than the 57 minutes IMDB has listed each one them as — surely the TRT is just a placeholder.
This new teaser puts the Starks in the dark crypts where they each face statues of their matured selves; could it mean that Jon, Sansa and Arya are all doomed? And what about Bran, the elusive Stark child who is able to locate the Night King as the three-eyed-raven and might hold the secret to his defeat?
Funny, he is the only Stark member not shown in this trailer. It might get you thinking Bran plays a big role in either the defeat or the triumph of the White Walkers in Season 8. But there are others who may face the army of the dead: Daenerys and her remaining two dragons, Cersei and Jaime Lannister, Euron Greyjoy and his Iron Fleet to name a few of the super powers in Westeros.
HBO revealed the new official teaser trailer before the season premiere of True Detective, a fantastic show in its own right and one worthy of your attention on Sunday nights.
