There are five Tuesdays in October! That means five new Blu-ray release days this month, and we’ve already counted over two dozen new 4k titles hitting shelves not including retailer exclusives. Have you started your 4k Blu-ray collection yet? Here are some highlights to look forward to followed by a full month’s schedule of new Ultra HD Blu-ray releases.
On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Sicario: Day of the Soldado arrives on disc for the first time in a 2-disc combo edition that includes an Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and Digital Copy. On the same day, Universal’s The First Purge also premieres on disc in both Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray formats, as well as previously-released ‘Purge’ titles to Best Buy SteelBook combo editions. And, three of the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise titles arrive on 4k Blu-ray including The Fast and the Furious (2001), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006).
On Oct. 9, Dwayne Johnson and Neve Campbell star in the blockbuster Skyscraper that will be available for the first time on Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray as well as in limited retailer editions from Best Buy and Target. On the same day, The Evil Dead (1981) gets a 4k release, as well as Hotel Transylvania 3 (2018), Hotel Artemis (2018), and Hook (1991).
In mid-October on Oct. 16, Disney/Buena Vista bring Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) to disc, and you can find exclusive limited editions on 4k Blu-ray from Best Buy, Target and Walmart — just be sure to pre-order or get to the stores early to ensure a copy! Also on Oct. 16, cult-classic The Big Lebowski has been remastered to 4k to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film’s theatrical release in 1998, and this year’s dark comedy Arizona (2018) hits shelves.
On Oct. 23, Summit celebrates the 10th anniversary of their hit movie Twilight (1998) with a 4k Blu-ray combo edition, and, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018) starring Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, and Meryl Streep premieres on disc in Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray formats.
At the end of the month on Oct. 30, Stanley Kubric’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) has been remastered for Ultra HD Blu-ray with DTS Master HD audio and 2160p video further enhanced by HDR. You can also pick up The Planet Earth Collection, The Matrix Trilogy, or the individual ‘Matrix’ films The Matrix Revolutions (2003) and The Matrix Reloaded (2003) on Ultra HD Blu-ray. The Matrix (1999) was already released to 4k Blu-ray last May.
