In February, there are close to a dozen new 4k Blu-ray titles releasing to stores. Some of those movies were previously released to Blu-ray, while several titles will be available on disc for the first time. Here’s a look at all the new titles we know about. If any additional 4k releases are announced we’ll update this article. Click on the title for more details — if you want ’em.
New 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases, Feb. 2018
The first week in February will bring Warner Bros.’ Batman: Gotham by Gaslight to 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray. The animated film, just released to digital from DC Universe, was directed by Sam Liu (Batman: Year One, Batman: The Killing Joke) and stars Jennifer Carpenter, Bruce Greenwood, and Tara Strong.
On February 13, Lionsgate’s Oscar-nominated Wonder and last year’s 4-time Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water will be released to 4k Blu-ray. Hell or High Water, of course, was previously released to home media, but this will be the first time Wonder will be available on either Blu-ray or Ultra HD Blu-ray.
This week the Daddy’s Home franchise (can you call it that yet?) will hit shelves on 4k Blu-ray. Yes, that’s right the first Daddy’s Home film is getting an upgrade to 4k Blu-ray while last year’s sequel Daddy’s Home 2 will be available for the first time on disc.
Tuesday, Feb. 27 will be the biggest 4k Blu-ray release date of the month with seven 4k disc titles that we know of, including both films from the Lara Croft franchise: Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life from Paramount Pictures (the 4k releases will also be available from Best Buy in SteelBook editions).
Universal Studios’ Straight Outta Compton will release to the ‘Unrated Director’s Cut’ on Ultra HD Blu-ray, while brand new home media releases Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Coco, and Murder on the Orient Express will all be available on 4k Blu-ray and Blu-ray.
Finally, 5-time Oscar-nominated film Zero Dark Thirty will get a wide release on Ultra HD Blu-ray, six months after releasing exclusively at Best Buy stores.
