While the networks require additional subscription fees, it opens doors for Prime members who may want to get more video services through their Amazon account. GoPro Channel Launches On Amazon Fire TV & Fire TV Stick
Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users can now download the free GoPro Channel app to find videos of sports, travel, culture, music, wildlife and other GoPro-created content. The channel also features curated “best of” lists including GoPro Awards videos that showcase work by the GoPro community. Read more
CNNgo Channel Now Available On Roku
CNNgo is now available on the Roku platform and is supported on both Roku players and Roku TV models in the U.S. The channel offers live HD news, full-length CNN Original Series, short featured clips, video news sorting by category, and allows users to turn closed captioning on or off. Read more
Apple Watch Drops to $249 at Best Buy
The entry-level 38mm Sport model Apple Watch that at one time had been $549 is now just $249 at Best Buy. The model had been selling for $349 and can be purchased in Space Gray, Rose Gold, Silver or Gold with various Sports Band colors. Best Buy has also knocked $100 off most other Apple Watch models. GoPro app adds Apple Watch Control
After picking up an Apple Watch for $249, download the latest app update for GoPro and use the wearable device to control, preview shots, and add HiLight tags on a GoPro camera. Modes supported include Video, Photo, Burst Photo, and Time Lapse Photo. The app also improved still image grabs and sharing options on Android and iOS devices. Read more
Smithsonian Channel HD Launches on DISH
Dish Network has launched the Smithsonian Channel on Channel 367 in both SD and HD video resolution. The Showtime/Smithsonian Institution network is part of Dish’s “America’s Top 250″ service package and features original programming such as “Aerial America,” “Secrets” and the new series “UFOs Declassified.” Read more
Apple TV Boasts Over 2,000 Apps
We don’t know how many 4th-generation Apple TVs have sold since launching in October, but the now open tvOS platform has apparently led to a milestone of over 2,000 available apps. “We’re seeing tremendous developer interest,” Apple SVP Eddy Cue told BuzzFeed News. Cue added that about half of the transactions in the Apple TV store are coming from customers who upgraded and the other half from new Apple TV owners. Read more (Buzzfeed)
