Amazon has unveiled an exclusive release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition that packages a barrel-riding statue designed by Weta Workshop. Weta has produced several other statues from the scene with Bilbo Baggins and the dwarfs Oin and Bombur (or, as Tolkien would have referred to in the plural as dwarves) as single statues. But the exclusive from Amazon features three characters including Bilbo, Kili, and Thorin all in one design. The exclusive Amazon box art, as you can see from the photo above, is covered with scenes from the movie and includes a cut-out in the front where the statue can be seen inside.
The extended edition itself is the upcoming 5-Disc edition from New Line Home Video that contains Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D versions of the film along with Digital HD copies via UltraViolet. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition features an additional 25 minutes of extended film, as well as over nine hours of bonus material. The package art for the 5-Disc edition features a fiery image of Smaug, and is enough to make you want to buy this edition over the 3-Disc Edition just for the packaging alone.
