Nominated for six Oscars including Best Picture, Captain Phillips is now available in a Two-Disc Combo Edition from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that includes Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and Digital HD copy via UltraViolet. The film stars Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, and Barkhad Abdi (nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role), and was directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum). The Blu-ray Disc is formatted in 1080p at 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
Also new on Blu-ray Disc this week, 3-time Oscar nominated Blue Jasmine is now available to take home and watch in high-definition. The film’s star, Cate Blanchett, has been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, as well as Sally Hawkins for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Original Screenplay by Woody Allen. The Blu-ray Disc, also from Sony Pictures, doesn’t package a DVD copy but does include a Digital HD copy to download via UltraViolet. The BD is also formatted in 1080p video at 2.39:1 widescreen aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
Other new Blu-ray Disc releases this week include It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) from Criterion Collection, Machete Kills starring Danny Trejo and Sofia Vergara, P!nk: The Truth About Love Tour: Live From Melbourne, and Robocop ‘Remastered in 4k’ to coincide with the IMAX releases of the film.
