Universal has announced the release date for Battlestar Galactica – 35th Anniversary on Blu-ray Disc will be Aug. 6, 2013. Originally thought to be released last week on May 14, the Anniversary edition has been pushed back one month. The 1978 film that started the Battlestar Galactica phenomenon was released just a year after the first Star Wars film, when breakthroughs in special effects started a science fiction resurgence. ‘Battlestar’ introduced the Cylons, a new enemy humans must defeat to save their race. The Blu-ray Disc from Universal celebrates 35 years since the film’s theatrical release. The single-sided Blu-ray runs 2 hours, 5 Minutes with DTS-HD Master Audio Mono (“frak, mono”). Unfortunately, Universal doesn’t indicate any bonus features on the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray edition (although the 2006 2-disc DVD release did contain quite a few extras). Nevertheless, it will be great to see ‘Battlestar’ in high-definition 1080p resolution. It looks like Battlestar Galactica – 35th Anniversary carries a modest MSRP of $19.99.
