Sony has announced pricing on their new XBR Ultra 4k HDTVs with LED display technology, and surprisingly the numbers are not all that outrageous. The Sony XBR-55X900A (55″) and XBR-65X900A (65″) 4K Ultra HDTVs will retail for $4,999 and $6,999 respectively, hitting stores later this month on April 21. If you want to play with the big boys, however, the 84″ set will still cost you a mere $24,999.
We first got a look at the XBR (55″) and (65″ models at CES in January. The sets feature TRILUMINOS display technology, Sony’s two-chip 4K X-Reality PRO picture engine, MotionFlow XR960, and 3D support with passive 3D glasses. Ultra HDTV, also referred to as 4k, delivers 3840×2160 video resolution which is four times the current HD standard.
Select Sony store locations in Century City, Costa Mesa, and Palo Alto, CA, as well as Houston, Las Vegas and New York are showcasing the new models starting today.
Sony also announced today the FMP-X1 4K Media Player will sell for $699 starting this summer.
