Dish Network will launch a satellite broadband service by the end of year, a source told The Wall Street Journal. The service will allow Dish to be more competitive with other US service providers that offer broadband services packaged with TV and phone service. Last month, Dish partner EchoStar launched the EchoStar XVII satellite which will enable HughesNet Gen4—Hughes’ fourth-generation satellite Internet service. The satellite has been in testing stages after successfully reaching orbit. Dish currently offers broadband services through bundles with partner ViaSat.
