Hey, remember Avatar? That little film from James Cameron that came out in 2009, promising the best use of 3D ever? Well in two months, the 3D version will finally be available to everyone. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment today announced that the 3D version will be available globally starting October 15, with a U.S. launch on October 16. Pre-order at Amazon here. Of course, Avatar has been available on Blu-ray 3D for almost two years now, but only to Panasonic customers who bought one of the company’s HDTVs or other devices, thanks to a pretty asinine contract. Earning more than $2.7 billion in theaters, Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time, as well as the biggest-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. “3D television is the future of home entertainment,” said Cameron. “I’m a huge proponent of the technology and very pleased that Avatar can be viewed in the living room the way it is meant to be seen.” Took you long enough.
