Video game developer David Cage and his studio Quantic Dream are known for creating cinematic, emotion-driven games like Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy. Their latest gem is simply a tech demo unveiled at the 2012 Game Developers Conference–but boy does it pack a punch. While not being presented as a game, the feature offers excellent graphics and an even better narrative during its 7-minute runtime. “Kara” focuses on the construction of a female robot and the conversation between the droid and her creator, which takes a disturbing turn. Cage and his team released a similarly intense demo in 2006 to highlight the engine behind Heavy Rain, which was released in 2010. While “Kara” may not be slated for anything more than a tech demo at this point, we’re hoping this intriguing premise isn’t left on the cutting room floor.
