Verizon & Redbox to partner in movie rentals

Sometime this year Verizon and Coinstar (Redbox) will partner to offer customers additional options when they rent videos. Although details such as pricing were not provided, the partnership would allow customers to pay one fee to access movies on several platforms — including physical and digital.  The LLC (in which Verizon will own 65% and Redbox 35%), will leverage on Redbox’s 35,000 kiosks and Verizon’s online video-on-demand services. How much will Verizon and Redbox charge? You might expect Redbox to continue to offer their $1.20 per night fee, with an option to upgrade to a multi-platform rental. After all, there are still movie viewers out there who just want to pop in a disc. It will also be interesting to see if the nightly rental time period applies to the digital format as well. I mean, how many ways can you watch a movie in one night anyway? Click the link below to view the full Press Release.
