Disney will release The Lion King in 3D this fall, both in theaters and on Blu-ray Disc. The 2-time Oscar winning film (Best Original Score & Best Original Song) will get a two-week run in 3D theaters starting on September 16, followed by the release of several Blu-ray Disc editions on October 4, 2011. The Blu-ray Disc editions include a 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, and 8-Disc Trilogy. (A single disc DVD edition will release on November 15.)
“We’re showcasing one of the all-time favorite Disney movies in theaters and making it available in Blu-ray hi-def and in Blu-ray 3D—it’s the must-see, must-own title for everyone,” said Bob Chapek, president of distribution, The Walt Disney Studios.
