LG showed off their new 84-inch 3D LCD display this week at the Society for Information Display (SID) convention in Seattle, Washington. Wait, are those girls wearing 3D glasses? I thought they were just trying to look cool. The resolution on this set is four times the resolution of current 1080p displays at 3840 x 2160 — commonly referred to as “Ultra HD” or “Quad HD.” The 3D display from LG is the largest of its kind.
The LG display booth also showed off a 240Hz 47-inch LCD TV with 3ms MPRT (motion picture response time), a 47-inch 3D TV LCD that reduces crosstalk to less than 1 percent, a 3.98-inch UHD mobile high resolution (394 PPI) LCD panel, and a 47-inch panel that uses a liquid lens to eliminate the need for 3D glasses.
Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting a long time before Ultra Hi-Def displays are available in the consumer market. However, quad-res displays are commonly taken to electronics conventions where you can take a peek.
