A significant addition to its services, AT&T added HD VOD titles to its U-verse service, allowing customers to download video-on-demand content in high-definition. The HD VOD collection will start with titles such as Charlie Wilson’s War and Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins. Upcoming releases will include Leatherheads and The Incredible Hulk.
“With an extensive HD channel lineup, HD-capable equipment in every package, excellent picture quality and now HD VOD, AT&T U-verse TV is ready to provide the ultimate HD viewing experience for our customers,” said Rich Wellerstein, AT&T vice president of Programming. “The demand for HD just keeps increasing, and so will our HD lineup and HD VOD library.”
In the competitive world of high-definition television service, the addition of HD VOD titles to the U-verse on-demand library will give AT&T a bit more firepower. U-verse offers 45 HD channels, which is competitive to Verizon’s FiOS service in many areas. However fiber-optic competitor Verizon now has an edge in some New Jersey and New York areas where they are offering 100 HD channels.
