Paramount, once exclusive to HD DVD at the height the format battle, will be offering a $10 rebate for customers who want to upgrade to high-definition Blu-ray Disc. According to Variety, only certain library titles will be included in the offer including “The Godfather” and “Transformers.” Paramount is hoping to give Blu-ray sales a boost this coming holiday season.
Customers will need to mail in a rebate certificate that is included with certain titles, along with proof of purchase tabs for both the DVD and Blu-ray movies. There have been rumors that Paramount will take HD DVD proof of purchases but this is not confirmed. The rebate offer will be good until the end of the year.
Upcoming Blu-ray releases from Paramount include “Transformers” (Sept. 2), “The Godfather: Four-Disc Coppola Restoration” (Sept. 23) “Sweeney Todd” (Oct. 21.), “Kung Fu Panda”(no date yet), “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” (Oct. 14), “Old School,” (no date yet), and “The Love Guru (Two-Disc Special Edition)” (Sept. 1).
