LG announced a new BD player that has Netflix streaming capability. The LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc Player scheduled to be released this Fall will be able to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from the 12,000+ Netflix library. Problem is, Netflix does not currently stream high-definition.
I spoke with a Netflix rep and he told me he didn’t think they would be able to start offering high-def downloads until the holiday season. Even then, he had no specific date and made no promises. For now you’ll have to settle for streaming standard-definition content.
When Netflix does offer high-def you’ll be able to make download choices on the Netfix webstie which are added to a queue. Once selected the content will start streaming in as little as 30 seconds.
The Blu-ray part of the LG Blu-ray player incorporates BD Live (interactivactivity) and Bonus View (picture-in-picture access to BD special features.) The LG BD300 will also upconvert standard-definition DVDs to 1080p.
“As Blu-ray player sales are expected to triple in three years,
consumers are craving content and seeking a premium home entertainment experience,” said LG Electronics USA President Teddy Hwang.
