JVC added three new high definition cameras to its HD Everio line of products. Two of the camcorders, the GZ-HD40 and GZ-HD30, are dual format cameras allowing AVCHD compression and the higher quality MPEG-2 compression. The GZ-HD10, a more economical model, has also been added.
The dual format camcorders offer 1920×1080 resolution recorded to a 120GB (GZ-HD40) or 80GB (GZ-HD30) hard drive. The GZ-HD40 is capable of up to 50 hours of AVCHD full HD recording, while the smaller GZ-HD10 will hold 16 hours. The GZ-HD40 has up-converting technology, allowing its lesser 1440×1080 resolution to scale up to 1920×1080 for playback.
The Everio HD brand of camcorders use JVC’s HD Gigabrid Duo video chip which processes full 1920x1080p video in either AVCHD or MPEG-2 Format.
The GZ-HD40, GZ-HD30, GZ-HD10 are priced at $1299, $999 and $799 respectiviely. The three models are slated for release in August, 2008.
