Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix has surpassed $850M at the worldwide box office and could be on its way to $1B. Not bad for a $55M film that cost a fifth of DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The movie is already up for pre-order on Blu-ray, 4k Blu-ray, DVD, and digital, but this SteelBook reveal from Best Buy may have you reconsidering packaged media. With striking images of Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Joker printed on the front, back, and inside of the special “hard shell” case, the Limited Edition SteelBook is indeed not just a disc holder but a collectible object.
However, 4k Blu-ray SteelBooks from Best Buy tend to cost $5 to $10 more than standard issue Ultra HD Blu-rays. At $34.99 each (they rarely go on sale) you have to know you are paying more for the uniqueness and collectibility of this physical media release.
Bonus features and disc specs haven’t been announced yet. But Joker on UHD BD will likely feature HDR (hopefully with HDR10+ and maybe also Dolby Vision) and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. We’ll keep you posted on the latest reveals on this title which is expected to release on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
[Update: Joker will release to Digital on Dec. 17, 2019 and Disc on Jan. 7, 2020.] Order from Amazon
