Daredevil was the first of the Marvel/Netflix partnership to bring episodic series about The Defenders team of superheroes. To our surprise, a third season will premiere before years’ end.
We had thought Daredevil Season 3 wouldn’t make it until sometime in 2019, after all, there hasn’t really been any hype or official trailers released about a new season. Although, it was confirmed a second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist would be premiering on September 7.
As of now, all four Marvel superhero series on Netflix will get new seasons during 2018. Season 2 of Jessica Jones premiered back in March, and the second season of Luke Cage just started streaming late June.
The news comes from Netflix CFO David Wells in the company’s latest earnings report: Wells stated, “in the short term we’ve got new seasons coming up the second half of this year of Orange Is The New Black, Ozark, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Narcos, the finale of House of Cards, the followup series for Making a Murderer.”
We had been uncertain as to the fate of Daredevil seeing as though Season 2 was released two-and-a-half years ago. But, with Netflix planning to spend $8B on content why not throw in another season of DD? The timing though, was much quicker than expected, and that’s something else to be excited about this fall.
Daredevil, as a hero and Netflix series, is one fourth of The Defenders team that cross paths while fighting crime around New York City. The heroes end up joining forces to fight a their common enemy known as The Hand.
