Tuesday, Oct. 17 will bring several new 4k Blu-ray releases to shelves, including a couple limited editions from the Spider-Man franchise release of the most recent film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Apollo 13
Apollo 13 (1995) was remastered for Blu-ray a couple years ago to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the film, but now the movie will get also get a 4k Blu-ray release from Universal Pictures. The 4k Blu-ray edition features an immersive English DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, as well as HDR (High Dynamic Range) color improvements with the HDR10 specification. Serenity
The release of Universal Studios’ Serenity to 4k Blu-ray comes about a month after Firefly The Complete Series hit stores in a 15th Anniversary Blu-ray Edition. On Ultra HD Blu-ray, Serenity is presented in 2160p at 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio with HDR enabled by the HDR10 specification. And, the English soundtrack features immersive DTS:X audio backed by DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Spider-Man: Homecoming
One of last summer’s blockbusters, the 4k Blu-ray editions of Spider-Man: Homecoming feature over 60 minutes of bonus material such as deleted scenes, a gag reel and the “Spidey Study Guide” with facts about the movie and comic books. There are also 4 never-before-seen alternate Captain America PSAs with Chris Evans, 7 behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a photo gallery. The movie is also available in a special mask edition from Sony Pictures that’s a bit hard to find on Amazon (the title of the product doesn’t include “4k” or “ultra hd”, so just search for “spider-man: homecoming.” And, BestBuy has their own limited Steelbook Blu-ray edition with custom artwork on the cover. Amazing Spider-Man Limited Edition Collection
This 2 movie collection from Sony Pictures is yet another item that’s hard to find on Amazon. Search by the strangely listed title “Amazing Spider-Man 2 / Amazing Spider-Man, the – Set” or better yet just search by the ASIN No. “B06XZBSLDV” to find this limited edition. The 5-disc set includes both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 4k Ultra HD, along with copies on Blu-ray disc and digital via an UltraViolet redemption code. A bonus disc contains The Stan Lee Legacy: From Comic Book to Homecoming, 15 rare archival featurettes, and close to 10 hours of additional archival extras.
