It’s hard to get a story out with all the commotion about Prime Day, but lets not forget it’s Tuesday and time to review the new Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray titles released today.
Among the hottest releases is the blockbuster action film The Fate of the Furious starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, and Dwayne Johnson. The movie is available on Blu-ray and 4k Blu-ray from Universal, in 2-disc combo packs that include a DVD or Blu-ray, respectively, as well as a Digital Copy . Extra bonus materials include extended fight scenes, and commentary with Director F. Gary Gray. And, there’s a code that unlocks an Extended Edition only on Digital.
Also now on Blu-ray, The Lost City of Z tells the story of a British explorer named Colonel Percival Fawcett who disappeared in the 1920s while searching for a mystical city in the Amazon jungle. Charlie Hunnam (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) stars as Fawcett, along with Twilight sensation Robert Pattinson and Golden Globe-nominated Sienna Miller. The Blu-ray combo pack from Broad Green Pictures that includes Blu-ray and DVD copies.
Other Blu-ray mentionables this week include the breakthrough 1997 film The Fifth Element on 4k Blu-ray, Sony’s animated hit Smurfs: The Lost Village (also in 4k Blu-ray), a Collector’s Edition of Species (1995) from a new 4k scan as well as new interviews, The Man From Planet X (1951) from B-movie master Edgar G. Ulmer, and a new release of Smokey and the Bandit (1977) that celebrates the film’s 40th Anniversary.
