We’ve got the poll results from readers’ favorite Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc so far in 2017. To qualify, the discs had to have been released from Jan. through June 15th, 2017. The top 10 choices we chose were determined by a combination of sales and reader interest.
At the top of the Best Ultra HD Blu-ray Mid-2017 is BBC’s Planet Earth II with 34% of the votes. The six episodes of the documentary are presented in gorgeous 2160p video with High Dynamic Range color, and an almost 1-hour bonus feature describes how the footage was captured. It’s the ultimate title to show off your 4k HDR TV, calibrated or not.
Coming in second place with 15% of the votes was 20th Century Fox’s Logan on Ultra HD Blu-ray. In addition to the feature, the 4k Blu-ray edition with HDR includes almost 90 minutes of new bonus content such as deleted scenes and the behind-the-scenes documentary “Making Logan,” as well as a black-and-white version of the film, “Logan Noir,” that is a must see even with some of the imperfections of a color film being converted to black and white.
And, in third place with 13% of the votes is Passengers from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The 4k release features HDR-enhanced color, an immersive Dolby Atmos soundtrack, and several featurettes and deleted scenes.
