This week there are plenty of new Blu-ray Disc releases to get excited about, and more 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray titles than most weeks. Here are the highlights for Tuesday, May 16.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is available on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray, and both editions include bonus features such as “Explore the Hive,” “Stunts & Weaponry,” and “The Badass Trinity & The Women of Resident Evil” among extras. The 4k Blu-ray specs feature 2160p video at 2.40:1 aspect ratio with HDR (High Dynamic Range) color. The soundtrack to Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is offered in English Dolby Atmos (compatible with Dolby TrueHD 7.1).
Paramount Pictures’ xXx: Return Of Xander Cage is now available on both Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR. The video on the 4k Blu-ray features 2160p video at 2.40:1 aspect ratio, and the soundtrack is playable in English Dolby Atmos backed up by a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track. The Blu-ray titles include some extra bonus material as well as digital copy redeemable with UltraViolet or iTunes.
The Space Between Us from directors Peter Chelsom is available in a 2-disc Blu-ray combo with Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD copy that can be redeemed from iTunes or Ultraviolet partners. Extra bonus material includes an alternate ending, deleted scenes, “Love” featurette, and feature commentary with Chelsom. The video is formatted in 1080p at 2.40:1 aspect ratio with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack.
And, 4x Oscar-winner Unforgiven (1992) starring Clint Eastwood has been released to 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray featuring HDR (High Dynamic Range) color specifications. The 4k release celebrates the 25th anniversary of the film and includes audio commentary by Clint Eastwood biographer Richard Schickel, 4 documentaries, the original theatrical trailer for the film, and Classic Maverick episode “Duel at Sundown.”
There are several film compilations now on Blu-ray. Resident Evil The Complete Collection, The Mummy Ultimate Collection, The Mummy Ultimate Trilogy (Ultra HD Blu-ray), The Mummy: Complete Legacy Collection (1932), and Dracula: Complete Legacy Collection (1931) are some great boxed sets to own.
Older, catalog Blu-ray releases this week include Streets Of Fire – Collector’s Edition (1984), Willard (1971), Ben (1972), Return Of The Dragon (1972), Last Plane Out (1983), Highpoint (1982), Good Morning (1959), The Climber (1975), Game Of Death (1978), and Vision Quest (1995).
Animated releases this week include Girls Und Panzer Der Film, Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition, and Digimon Adventure Tri.: Reunion.
