IMDb is shutting down its message boards and private messaging on February 20. That means whether you’re looking for thoughtful discussions on the works of Federico Fellini, or just some juvenile jousting over The Hottie and the Nottie, you’re going to have to take it someplace else.
IMDb issued the following statement on the move:
“After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.”
IMDb is encouraging its message board users to chat it up on the company’s Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and YouTube channels.
