Anxious for more Ultra HD Blu-ray titles? Lionsgate will release all three ‘Divergent Series’ films to the new disc format on Tuesday, July 12. Of course, we’re talking about Divergent (2014), The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), and the latest sequel The Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016).
At 4096 x 2160, the Ultra HD Blu-ray editions feature video resolution that’s four-times greater than conventional Blu-ray at 1980 x 1080p. And, English audio should be presented in at least DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0 (the same as the Blu-ray discs), although there is the possibility of a Dolby Atmos soundtrack like other 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray releases.
Why buy the Ultra HD Blu-ray editions? Even if you don’t have an Ultra HD Blu-ray player yet you can still enjoy the included Blu-ray Disc and Digital HD copies included in each edition. We expect at least a few UHD BD players to be available by the 2016 holiday season, and hopefully the prices will be more affordable than the $400 Samsung UBD-K8500.
All three ‘Divergent’ films star Shailene Woodley as the protagonist Tris, along with Theo James as the character Four. The franchise also includes roles played by Jai Courtney, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Zoë Kravitz, Jeff Daniels, and Octavia Spencer.
Ultra HD Blu-ray titles typically cost $29.99 each, although pre-orders may offer a slight discount and upon release UHD BD movies may be found for as low as $24.99.
