This week isn’t exactly filled with new blockbuster film releases on Blu-ray, but there are some titles we want to let you know about. First, Warner Bros.’ Christmas Vacation (1989) starring Chevy Chase has been newly remastered for Blu-ray Disc and includes a Digital HD copy via UltraViolet for watching anywhere. The film was previously released to several Blu-ray editions, the first being in 2006, but Warner Bros. is clearly trying to extend the life of this holiday classic. Price: $39.95
Criterion Collection has released the sport drama Downhill Racer (1969) starring Robert Redford and Gene Hackman to Blu-ray Disc from a digitally restored print of the film. Along with the 101-minute movie, the edition also includes bonus materials such as interviews, uncompressed monaural soundtrack, a rare 12-minute promotional feature, and more. Price: $39.95
The horror/comedy Cooties is now available in a 1-disc edition from Lionsgate that also includes a Digital HD copy with UltraViolet. The film stars Elijah Wood (The Hobbit franchise), Rainn Wilson (The Office), and Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and is about a virus that turns elementary school kids into feral savages (yeah, one of those films). Price: $13.99
