Vudu app for Android now supports HD/HDX
The latest update to the Vudu app for Android includes support for HD (720p) and HDX (1080p) content, as well as auto-magic search suggestions, a new navigation, faster performance, and improvements to Chromecast casting. The only thing we should mention is you’ll have to re-download any existing content after updating because the platform now uses a different video format. Read more
Apple now offers Retina displays in all iMacs
Apple’s newest iMacs have been upgraded, and one of the improvements includes Retina displays in both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch models. The larger model features 5120 x 2880 resolution (14.7 million pixels), while the 21.5-inch model displays 4096 x 2304 resolution (9.4 million pixels). But, you’ll need to purchase the most expensive 21.5-inch model (starting at $1,499) to get the Retina display. Read more
NHL App update adds Chromecast
The latest NHL app update for both Google Android and Apple iOS devices has been updated to support Chromecast, as well as other general improvements for use on mobile devices. And, the app for Android tablets and Apple iPad has a brand new video section. Read more
Sony announces native 4k home theater projectors
Want to start projecting 4k in your home theater? Sony has announced several new home theater projectors that support Ultra HD and HDCP 2.2 copy-protected content, and, a couple models will even play HDR content via HDMI 2.0a. The new Sony 4k home theater projectors start at $9,999. Read more
The Strato 4K HDR will play Sony Ultra HD movies
Kaleidescape’s Strato Movie Player will let customers download and play Ultra HD movies from Sony for about $30 a piece. The player supports lossless multichannel audio and HDR content via HDMI 2.0a. The player can be purchased with an internal 6TB hard drive to store up to 100 4K Ultra HD movies and 150 Blu-ray quality movies. Read more (Multichannel)
