Its been only a few months since HBO Now launched, now Showtime has delivered its own over-the-top streaming service on several platforms including Apple iOS, Hulu, PlayStation Vue, and the Roku streaming media player. That’s a couple more platforms than HBO Now first launched on, and, the service costs a bit less than HBO’s standalone service. Let’s break down the options.
SHOWTIME app on Apple iOS
Apple devices including Apple TV, iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad can download and run the SHOWTIME app for iOS. The service costs $10.99 per month ($4 less than HBO Now), and includes unlimited access to on-demand content, live programming, past and current series episodes, and the ability to switch between SHOWTIME East and SHOWTIME West feeds. SHOWTIME streaming on Hulu
SHOWTIME is now available as a premium add-on through Hulu. The streaming service costs $8.99 per month, but subscribers will also need to pay the $7.99 per month Hulu Plus subscription rate to get the Showtime service. Still though, $16.98 per month for plenty of television programming and complete access to Showtime without a cable TV service sure sounds like a heck-of-a-deal. SHOWTIME on Sony PlayStation Vue
Sony’s PlayStation Vue is a new service itself, having been just launched just in March of this year. But the service has been quick to add popular streaming channels, and will offer channel subscriptions à la carte sometime this month. On PlayStation Vue, SHOWTIME is available for $10.99 a month, but PlayStation Plus members can get it less for $8.99 a month. Read more about PlayStation Vue.
SHOWTIME on Roku
Roku’s lineup of streaming media players have plenty of channels to choose from, but not many can claim to be as popular as Showtime. The network’s over-the-top service is available for $10.99 per month, giving subscribers full access to past and current series episodes, sporting events, SHOWTIME East and SHOWTIME West feeds, and movies on-demand. Showtime is currently promoting 30 days free to try the service and stream popular original series such as Homeland, Penny Dreadful, Ray Donovan, Queer As Folk, The L Word, and The Tutors.
Keep in mind the newly-launched standalone SHOWTIME service is different from the existing SHOWTIME ANYTIME service that requires authentication with a username and password associated with a TV provider.
