PlayStation 4 users can finally start sharing and watching videos on YouTube, as the app for PS4 is now available at the PlayStation Store. YouTube, of course, is free-of-charge and users can quickly access the app via the Share button on the DualShock 4 button. Users also have the ability to find videos posted by fellow gamers through the What’s New section of PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 mobile app for Android and iOS apps.
What video quality does the PS4 support, you might ask? The YouTube app for PlayStation 4 will support up to 1080 x 1920p resolution with 5.1 channel audio. Recommended bit rate for 1080p video is 50,000 kbps, while 5.1 audio is recommended at 512 kbps. YouTube also suggests matching frame rate uploads with the frame rate of the original video source.
For example, if the video was shot at 24 fps it should be uploaded at 24 fps. If it was shot at 720p 60 fps it should be uploaded at 720p 60 fps.
PlayStation’s software engineer Richard O’Grady posted the news midweek on the PlayStation’s official blog.
