Walmart has announced a new T-Mobile promotion that offers 200MB of free 4G data every month for the life of a select purchased tablet. While 200MB will run out quickly for those streaming videos over Netflix and YouTube, the data amount is plenty enough for checking email, browsing the internet, and low bandwidth activities over 4G networks.
Right now, the only tablet available with this offer is the Apollo Brands Trio AXS Quad Core tablet for $179. The tablet features a 7.85” HD display (1024 x 768), two-camera vision, MicroSD slot, quad core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB memory, and 16GB on-device storage.
In June, the retailer will sell the HP Slate 7 HD for $229 with Free Data for Life. The 7” display tablet (1280 x 800) will feature Google Play, multi-touch HD wide-angle viewing, two-camera vision, a MicroSD slot, 1GB memory, and 16GB on-device storage.
Walmart also offers 3.5GB of data for $35 and 5GB of data for $50 per month of T-Mobile service. And, postpaid plans are available starting at $10 per month.
“The vast majority of tablet owners today are trapped in the Wi-Fi zone,” said Doug Chartier, senior vice president, T-Mobile. It doesn’t have to be this way,” said Doug Chartier, senior vice president, T-Mobile.
“We know many of our customers want to be constantly connected but often end up purchasing tablets with just Wi-Fi due to the cost,” said Kevin Pate, vice president of electronics for Walmart U.S.
