Dish has announced new software in development that will allow Hopper to be used with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. Named Dish’s “Virtual Joey,” the application will provide a “nearly identical experience” to using the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR’s Joey system. The program guide, live TV and DVR recordings will be accessible via the PS3 and PS4 just as if you are using the DVR. Since Virtual Joey is software-based, there won’t be any need for additional wires as the client will be able to connect over your wireless network. Dish says the new software will be available to subscribers within the first half of 2014, when the Virtual Joey app for both PS3 and PS4 will be accessible to download from the PlayStation Store.
If you’re visiting CES 2014, Dish is giving demos of the Virtual Joey app on PS3 systems at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Central Hall at booth #8243.
